Coffee Warehouse breakfast review

Great breakfast in the city centre.

12, The Foregate, Worcester, WR1 3QD

the café

My Coffee Warehouse breakfast review might never have been. From a search on the internet, it wasn’t immediately obvious that they served food. And a passerby might not realise unless they get close enough to see the signs in the window.

First impressions of the café was good – clean, relaxed and simply, but stylishly decorated. And what often gives a café its vibrancy is that the counter and cooking area are a central part of the layout. We were greeted with a warm welcome and settled into a table by the window with a great view of Foregate Street.

We ordered drinks soon after being seated. I had a straight white coffee which was good, served hot, and came with a separate milk pot. Strangely, my eldest son, Billy, chose a pineapple smoothie – for breakfast! Whilst I do like a smoothie, pineapple wouldn’t be my choice. However, it looked really nice and he enjoyed it.

menemen

When I checked out the Coffee Warehouse website, one thing that caught my eye was the Menemen. This is a traditional Turkish dish for which there are many different recipes. Scrambled eggs are often used, but Coffee Warehouse used poached eggs on spinach, red onions, peppers, and garlic. It was served with toast, which is fine. Nevertheless, the menu on their website says it is served with a baguette, which I would have preferred. Menemen is cooked in, and generally eaten from, a pan.

When ordering, the waitress asked if I would like it spicy. I said yes. Warning – when they say spicy, they mean spicy.

Served in the pan, this dish looks amazing. It is a tasty, healthy, and filling meal. Coffee Warehouse serve menemen as a breakfast dish. However, in its native Turkey, it is eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has a great contrast of flavours and I liked every aspect of this dish.

full English breakfast

This was Billy’s choice. He says it was tasty and cooked well. The portion size was good and it was nice and hot. Moreover, there is a choice of similar breakfast dishes on the menu including a gluten free, and a vegetarian option.

eggs benedict

Purely for the purposes of providing a review, I shared an Eggs Benedict with Billy. It was attractively presented on a long rectangular plate. Everything was cooked well. The taste of salmon was there, but was not overpowering, the eggs delicious, and the muffin just right (not soggy).

We had a choice of salmon, ham or bacon. The dish with salmon is often called Eggs Royale, rather than Eggs Benedict – but who cares?

around and about the Coffee Warehouse

Coffee Warehouse is so very central that it is ideal for many purposes. It is close to the shops, Foregate Street railway station, and it is barely a couple of minutes’ walk from the Odeon cinema. And if you are visiting Worcester horse races for the day – why not start off with a hearty breakfast here?
