Broomfields breakfast review
A relaxed breakfast with good food.
School Plantation, Holt Heath, Worcester, WR6 6NR
the cafe
The cafe is quite typical of a farm shop or garden centre – no surprises. It was clean and nicely decorated. Tables were available outside, but we chose to sit inside and had a choice of tables. The waiters were friendly and we were given a menu soon after being seated.
Here is the only negative I found during my Broomfields breakfast review. The menu wasn’t clean, although it wasn’t particularly dirty. The corner was turned up and it was a bit grubby. I believe that giving someone a menu that is anything other than spotless is a very bad start to a meal. Broomfields stated that they were “frustrated” that the menu I was given was grubby as they very recently had 500 new ones printed. They say they will ensure it doesn’t happen again.
My son, Billy, and I ordered drinks which arrived in good time. The Americano was very much to my liking and it was hot – that’s important! Billy enjoyed his pear juice which can also be purchased by the bottle in the adjacent farm shop.

butter bean breakfast
I ordered the butter bean breakfast – roasted red peppers with roasted sweet potato, tomato ragu, spinach, and tofu scrambled egg. This was the healthy and vegan option. I never find butter beans to be bursting with flavour – this meant that the other ingredients could each be tasted. The dish was nicely presented and a reasonable portion. It could have been a bit hotter and some granary bread would go well with it.
farmhouse breakfast
Billy, as always, opted for the farmhouse (full English) breakfast. The vine tomatoes added greatly to the presentation. If it could be improved, it would be the addition of a second sausage. What else can be said about a full English breakfast? They are either good or not so good. This was good.
French toast
Credit to Broomfields for this dish. As you may have seen from some of my other reviews, I do like a cafe that has an interesting menu rather than the usual dishes that we all love and have bored with. French toast with cinnamon sugar, bacon, caramelised banana and maple syrup. Different, tasty, very well presented. I am not a big fan of maple syrup, but it didn’t dominate. Bacon and banana. Who would have thought it would work so well?
around and about Broomfields, Holt Heath
I usually talk about things you can do nearby in this section. However, Broomfields has a farm shop and a country & garden store. I haven’t used the country & garden store, but I have bought from the farm shop quite a few times. Farm shops can often be expensive, but the vegetables I have purchased at Broomfields were very reasonable. And where the vegetable or fruit is in season, it generally hasn’t travelled far to get there. They have a good selection of cakes, and a butchery and deli counter.
There are artisan products which stretch the budget, but nothing unexpected in this type of shop. And of course there is a selection of bottled fruit juices.
According to their website, the country & garden store stocks “a large range of feed, treats and supplements for any pet or small animal ….. country clothing and footwear ….. everything equine for the horse and rider ….. a wide selection of birdcare & wildlife products ….. garden tools and supplies ….. seeds and bulbs”.
