lunch at the Fox & Hounds

good food, good service

Lulsley, Worcestershire, WR6 5QT

the pub

The Fox & Hounds is a country pub full of character. We were welcomed when we arrived and the service was just right. Very natural, nothing forced or false, just good service. The wait for each course seemed just right.

Dogs are welcome and there were a few there today. The inside is plenty spacious enough and it is the sort of pub where you might expect dogs to be welcome.

This place is just what you want from a country pub. The inside seating areas could have been a bit warmer. If you are looking for somewhere to visit after a walk in the countryside, put this pub on your list. There are lots of local walks and the Ravenshill Woodland Reserve and the The Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve are both close by.

lunch at the Fox & Hounds in Lulsley

starters

When reviewing a restaurant, it is good to choose different dishes. I was, therefore, disappointed when Christina ordered the crispy shredded beef. However, I had set my heart on that dish and so we ordered two portions.  It was beautifully presented and served with honey, soy, ginger, chillies and a garlic glaze. The chillies were noticeable and gave the dish a kick. Both Christina and I enjoyed this dish.

main course

Christina chose the fish of the day for her main course. The baked plaice came with crushed new potatoes, confit vine tomato and seasonal greens. It is served with either lemon & caper butter (Christina’s choice) or chilli & ginger. The plaice was cooked well, the dish tasty and the vegetables excellent.

I chose the pie of the day  – pork, cider and mustard, served with gravy, seasonal vegetables and chips or mash. The pie was superb, the chips and vegetables great, and the thick gravy plentiful. There was a vegetarian option of broccoli and stilton pie

dessert

Christina just wanted a latte, but had a filter coffee which was the only coffee option.

The blueberry cheesecake was as creamy as a cheesecake can be. As with all the dishes today, the presentation was excellent. The fruit and ice cream were fine but, let’s face it, we’re talking about the cheesecake and it was heaven.

facilities

parking

The pub has its own car park.

disabled access

There are signs for disabled parking at the front of the pub. I was told that they can get a wheelchair into the pub. There are no disabled toilets facilities.

dogs

Dogs are certainly welcome at the Fox & Hounds.

Beer Garden

During our visit it was certainly not beer garden weather. However, the Fox & Hounds has a beer garden with numerous tables, and this would be a lovely spot for a cold beer on a summer’s eve.
