breakfast at Hash Diner

excellent food in stylish surroundings

the restaurant

A good start to our breakfast at Hash Diner – the lady I spoke with when booking our table was particularly helpful and pleasant. This is a new restaurant for the city centre. It is run by the team that used to operate from the very well regarded Old Rectifying House. The restaurant is modern, stylish and relaxing. It was a busy Saturday morning and the buzz inside was lively. A great feature is that the kitchen is open to the dining area. You are able to see the chefs busily preparing the dishes and this adds to the general vibe.

One negative was the slow service. Perhaps they had staff issues as two waitresses arrived just before we left. A couple of friends have recommended Hash to me and they had no problem with the service. So it is likely to be a one-off and I would certainly visit again. However, I review what I experience on the day.

breakfast

A full English breakfast for me. Gloucester Old Spot pork sausages, home cure streaky bacon, plum tomato, field mushroom, Heinz beans, egg, potato rosti, and sourdough toast. Every ingredient was good quality and cooked well. The sourdough toast was lovely and thick cut. The potato rosti was beautiful. One issue for me is that a full English breakfast should have two eggs, not one. You may disagree!

Christina opted for the veggie breakfast. Moving Mountains sausages, guacamole, plum tomato, field mushroom, Heinz beans, egg, potato rosti, and sourdough toast. Again, this breakfast was very good quality and Christina’s poached egg was cooked to perfection.

A friend ate at hash Diner recently and he said the eggs royale were accompanied by the best hollandaise sauce he has ever tasted!

Our coffees were, most importantly, hot. I really liked my flat white.
