Chim Doo lunch review

Excellent value lunch menu

Venn Lane, Wichenford, Worcester WR6 6XY

the restaurant

The Chim Doo lunch review took us to a farmyard near the village of Wichenford. Bury End Farm looks everything you would expect of a traditional farm until you drive through the entrance and find a Thai restaurant. The car park is clean so you are unlikely to step in poo. Stepping inside the restaurant, I found the interior to be very much to my taste. I am not a table decoration sort of guy, but I really did like the vase holding the flower arrangement. We were the first to arrive for lunch, but three other tables soon became occupied.

We opted for the lunch menu – 1 course £8.50 or 2 courses for £10.50. The lunch menu offers a good choice of dishes. However, we will return one day to sample the evening menu which includes a number of dishes I would love to try.

lunch

starters

My daughter, predictably, chose the spare ribs marinated in Thai style with red wine sauce. She enjoyed the dish and it was a generous portion. My eldest son and I both opted for Thai Money Bags. Minced chicken in crispy pasty, deep fried and served with sweet chilli sauce. We enjoyed this starter which seemed to be a variant of won tons or gyozas – both of which I adore.

Both starters arrived beautifully decorated. There were four other starters to choose from, but we were happy with our choices.

main course

Eleven main courses – 8 with rice (steamed or fried) and 3 noodle dishes. Billy selected the masamun, a traditional yellow curry from the southern region of Thailand, cooked with coconut milk, onion and potato. He said it was tasty and he enjoyed it. What else is there to say? Kids don’t say much else!

Daughter and I went for the phad keing – stir-fried meat with mushroom, red chilli, onion, spring onion and ginger. This was a tasty dish with a variety of textures, slightly spicy, and very attractive on the plate.

dessert

We didn’t have a dessert simply because we only went out for lunch and the two courses were ample.

around and about Chim Doo, Wichenford

Being so close to the Masons Arms, the ‘things to do’ are the same so a bit of copy and pasting going on here!

Situated in the Worcestershire countryside, the Chim Doo is roughly one mile from St Peter’s Church in Martley. It is from this church car park that you start on the Martley Circular Walk. At just over six miles, this is a good stretch for the legs, and it takes in some beautiful countryside and excellent views. The waymarked walk takes you through fields, country lanes, along riverbanks, and though an apple orchard. For a few minutes, the walk follows the ridge of a hill from which there are wonderful views stretching far to the west of Martley.

The famous and very popular Witley Court and Gardens is just under six miles to the north.

Five miles away you can enjoy a visit to The Firs, the birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar.

An 8-mile drive will take you to The Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve. This is a Worcestershire Wildlife Trust reserve, and my view is that this is one of the best walks in the area. There is a circular route around the reserve that takes in an apple orchard, meadow, woodland, the old papermill cottage, and returns alongside Leigh Brook.
