Anatolian Palace dinner review

tasty food in the city centre

the restaurant

An interesting restaurant. We arrived to find a busy, bustling restaurant where we received a warm greeting and were shown to our table. The vibe was excellent, and this Anatolian Palace dinner review was to be a noisy one. In fact, a bit too noisy if what you want is a good chat with a friend over a meal.

Set in a modern shopping centre, it is no surprise that the decor is also modern. The menu is varied and includes a fish section and a section for vegetarian dishes. With plenty of waiters, we never had to wait for attention. And, importantly, the waiters were patient and helpful.

The restaurant’s claim on their website that “you can immerse yourself in our truly authentic Turkish restaurant” is true in some ways. However, playing ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’, and getting the diners to join in isn’t truly Turkish, is it? For a diner’s birthday, the waiters don colourful wigs and gather round their table to sing a very raucous ‘happy birthday’. Amazingly, there were six birthday songs in the 90 minutes we were there!

dinner

wine and bread

Given the restaurant we were in, we selected a Turkish red wine. It was the cheapest option but, really, that didn’t affect our decision! The wine was light and fresh with a good taste and we were both pleased with our choice.

A complimentary dish of bread and sauces arrived. This is always one of my favourite parts of a meal. On this occasion, it was particularly good. The bread was lovely and the garlic sauce was creamy, full of taste and simply superb. I could have eaten bread dipped in that all night.

starters

We chose to share a Mixed Hot Meze for two people. This dish was humus, sigara, falafel, halloumi, sucuk and calamari.

I rarely eat calamari as I often find it too tough. However, this was perfect for me. The sigara was nice and light. The other components were all good and the accompanying salad was tasty and fresh.

main course

My friend chose Yogurtlu Tavuk Shish for his main course. This dish is marinated chicken breast cubes grilled on skewers, an laid on garlic yogurt. It is served with rice and salad. I tried some and found the chicken was cooked well, and the sauce was beautiful. I would have been happy had I ordered this dish.

The House Special took my eye. Included in the House Special is adana (seasoned minced lamb), a mixture of lamb and chicken shish, chicken wings, and lamb ribs. All served with rice and salad. My dish was OK. There was virtually no meat on the chicken wings. The other meats were fine, but it was a bit dry for my liking. Perhaps not authentically Turkish, but some yogurt or sauce as an accompaniment would have been good. The rice was light and fluffy.

The salad that accompanied the main courses was great. I often don’t like salad dressings, but this was good. The salad was fresh and tasted lovely. In fact, there was nothing bland about this salad. And the inclusion of red onion is always good with me. Without doubt, I found this salad to be perfect.

Another city centre restaurant review. Consequently, the ‘things to do’ near the restaurant include everything the city centre has to offer. Too much, for sure, to list in this Worcester restaurant review.
