Clive's Fruit Farm breakfast review

good food in a relaxed setting

Upper Hook Road, Upton upon Severn, WR8 0SA

the cafe

We chose to sit in the marque. It was a lovely day, but rain was threatening. We had the option to sit inside the cafe or at one of the tables outside. Christina has sampled food at Clive’s Fruit Farm many times before as she found it to be a great place to bring the children, when they were younger, and the grandparents. The play area is ideal for the younger ones. Climbing frame, slide, springy things, and a real tractor. As a young lad, any play area with a real tractor was always a winner.

Our table gave us a good view of the countryside. We ordered our food inside the cafe and collected our cutlery and sauces. One huge no-no for me is the storage of the cutlery. At the time of our review, the cutlery was stored upright for people to take themselves. Even before Covid, I hated this. But that was the only negative. I queried cutlery storage with the cafe and they advised that since re-opening in April it is their policy to wrap cutlery in serviettes. It wasn’t done on this occasion, but it certainly will be from now. Perfect response from the cafe. The cafe was clean, light, and bright. The staff were very friendly and the place has a very relaxed atmosphere.

breakfast

the coffees

Christina is hard to impress with coffee. It has to be tasty, and it has to be hot. There was nothing lukewarm about the coffee here.  Christina had a latte and it was a mocha for me. Tasty and hot is exactly what we wanted and what we got.

the food

We shared a smoked salmon and poached eggs on toast. Not every cafe gets poached eggs right. But these were perfectly cooked. The dish was attractively presented which I could have shown you had I not tucked in before taking photos. Still, the two pictures below will give you a good idea.

Bacon and free range eggs on toast for Christina. Again, the eggs were perfect and the bacon tasty. The farm has a shop and butchery, so I assume the meat is from here. The eggs are produced on site by the farm’s brood of hens.

My full English was good. Everything cooked well, a decent portion, and I cannot fault it. Baked beans are included, but not on my plate, thank you. The full English breakfast comes with Stornoway black pudding. Made on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, this Scottish delicacy has protected status. Read more about Stornoway black pudding.

lunch and cakes

The farm cafe offers a lunch menu and a good selection of home-made cakes.
