A warm welcome and a table for two. We didn’t book but, although the café was busy, there were a couple of spare tables. We were asked if we had any allergies or intolerances. Then the waiter, who daughter described as “very helpful”, gave us menus, said that we would need to order at the counter, and showed us to our table.

I don’t like to order at the counter as table service is preferable. However, at least they explained the process when we arrived. It isn’t pleasant sitting at a table not knowing whether it is table service.

The café is modern and a mix of bustling and relaxed. Well, it makes sense to me! The waiters were friendly and helpful and the food was delivered in good time.

A vanilla milkshake for me. A good taste. Not a thick, creamy shake, but light and refreshing. Daughter had a caramel frappe. She said it was a different taste to other places, but perfectly nice.

Just a starter for me, soup of the day. Writing this lunch review a few days after the meal, means I can’t remember the flavour of soup. I do know it had a few ingredients! Like the milkshake, this was light and not creamy. The taste was great and it was an enjoyable dish.

main course

Harissa lamb burger for daughter with mixed leaves, tomato, onion, tzatziki, and burger relish. This was served with a portion of fries. The burger looked good. Daughter is an experienced burger eater and she enjoyed this one.

Initial disappointment for me as the café had run out of spiced quinoa, butternut squash & kale salad. However, I opted for the chicken caser salad. This included garlic croutons, mixed leaves, radish, anchovies, parmesan and crostini. And I did enjoy this dish. A good mix of tastes and flavours and well presented.

Biscoff cheesecake for me and chocolate cake for her. The cheesecake was spot on. The all-important consistency of each layer was good and the taste was lovely. Apparently, the chocolate cake was also spot on.

The deserts are sourced locally.

What can I say? Where do I start? Being so central it is near the shops of Crowngate and the High Street. Foregate Street rail station is probably no more than 200 metres away.

The cafe does not have its own car park. Nearby car parks are plentiful and include Cornmarket Car Park, Crowngate, Silver Street, and Sansome Walk car parks.
